Getting a support letter for your mental health problems and even for other health problems might be very important while dealing with legal issues. It can make a difference if your evidence will be considered in your matter.

What and when

Why

  1. Government officials including assessors rarely read notes.
  2. Important information gets easily lost in notes as circuital points are not highlighted.
  3. Having explicit support form specialist has more weight, that providing support evidence on its own. It prevents misleading interpretations.
  4. Important aspects highlighted by expert carries more weight that mentioning evidence on their own.

Where

Statements from different specialist has a different weight in personal injury claim process. Here is a list of specialist starting with being the most valued in the process:

  1. Specialists from privileged list. In NSW SIRA maintains a list of health practitioners authorised to give evidence for personal injury assessment. In my experience some of them are corrupt and provide fraudulent reports. Some of them work as PIC assessors.
  2. Psychiatrist are mainly the ones who diagnose mental health problems.
  3. Clinical psychologist
  4. Psychologist
  5. General practitioner (GP)
  6. Social worker
  7. Other support personnel
